A Note About Play

Children's play is not always fully appreciated by adults. It is through play that a child learns. As a child moves freely in our environment, he/she learns by doing. As he/she plays they learn to work and talk with others. The child meets problems and learns to solve them. He/she grows in confidence and self-respect.

Through play, the child learns by:

  • Testing/exercising his/her body
  • Handling, tasting, smelling, observing
  • Hearing and using language tied to his/her own experience
  • Acting things out / living things over
  • Sharing materials and people
  • Being accepted
  • Solving problems in his/her own way
